Biomedical Waste Management
Objectives-
- To ensure that bio-medical waste is handled in accordance withBiomedical waste Management Rules, 2016& Environment Protection Act and without any adverse effect to human health & environment.
- To ensure occupational safety of all health care workers involved in handling of bio-medical waste.
- Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1998 had come into force on 27thJuly 1998 and in supersession to these rules, Bio-medical waste Management Rules, 2016 have been enforced from 28thMarch, 2016.
- These rules apply to all persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle bio medical waste in any form.
- GTB Hospital is committed to enforce these rules as the hospital has taken“authorization”from Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Activities & Services provided-
- Management of bio-medical waste in accordance with the guidelines.
- Daily assessment of all activities pertaining to bio-medical waste with the help of rounds in various hospital areas by the constituted BMWM Team.
- Regular training on “Bio-medical waste Management & Occupational Safety” to entire hospital staff in collaboration with Training Cell.
- Proper maintenance of records of bio-medical waste generated in the hospital with reporting to DHS & DPCC.
- Periodic meetings of Biomedical Waste Management Committee to monitor & supervise the activities of BMW Management in accordance with Rules notified from time to time.
Location-
- Biomedical waste storage site & Autoclave Plant are located behind mortuary near Gate no.1 of the hospital.
