Introduction

  • The department aims at high standard in management and care of children, academic, clinical, teaching and training domains. The broad goal is optimal dealing with major and minor health problems of children to ensure their optimal growth and development. It targets of reducing national morbidity and mortality in children in achieving millennium development goals. In accordance with national programmes it also implements other schemes and programmes by Delhi government like JSSY, LADLI, Immunization practices etc. It has a level III nursery for highest care of newborns. Besides general pediatrics, well equipped PICU, it also provides extended services in hematology and oncology, Thalassemia and hemophilia centers, HIV and ART center, neurology and lately gastroenterology clinic. It is a recognized International Training Centre for Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counseling. The department is engaged in training of MBBS, MD, DCH and nursing staff with the aim to deliver preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services for care of children both in the community and at hospital as part of a term in an integrated form with other disciplines.

Paediatrics

  • Level III Newborn intensive care unit (NICU) for care of sick newborns
  • Post natal wards for healthy newborns after birth till discharge
  • Well baby clinic for follow up of newborns discharged from nursery
  • High risk babies follow up clinic for follow up of sick neonates discharged from nursery.
  • Paediatric OPD on all days except Sunday for diagnosing, investigating and treatment of patients on outpatient basis.
  • Immunization on all days including Sundays in nursery and postnatal wards.
  • Lactation center: provides guidance and assistance in breastfeeding, relactation and lactation failure and complementary feeding.
  • Paediatric emergency with Paediatric intensive care unit(PICU) and out born nursery(NICU)for inpatient emergency management.
  • Paediatric ward with haematology and oncology unit for management of inpatients and care of cancer patients.
  • Thalassemia and haemophilia centre for transfusions and chelating therapy on day care basis
  • Child development clinic for diagnosing and managing children with neurological disorders and developmental delay in collaboration with PMR department, IBHAAS and other departments.
  • Gastroenterology clinic for diagnosing and managing children with heopatobiliary and gastroenterological disorders.
  • ·HIV and ART clinic- for care of infants and children with HIV including ART therapy.
